Get acquainted with this season’s fearless new direction.
It’s only right that each new season begin with a little fanfare, and providing the appropriate drama on this occasion is the first drop from our SS23 collection. Called Glamour Crush, the collection shimmers with the vibrant energy that came to define fashion and music in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. Icons such as Grace Jones, Debbie Harry, and Bianca Jagger flouted the pre-existing rules of dressing, forging their own unique path through the world and creating new ideals of femininity in the process.
The punk and new wave movements celebrated individuality above all else, fostering an environment in which unique style and unfettered self-expression could flourish. It’s these principles that have guided each design in the Glamour Crush collection, and to kick off the proceedings, we have a pair of styles that share a playful visual DNA. Josephine and Jorja are the collection’s opening act, confidently establishing a provocative design language that foregrounds colour and texture. Josephine is a heeled mule in fuchsia satin, while Jorja – also a vision in fuchsia – has an upper comprising clear PVC and patent leather, both sitting atop a 90mm, crystal-encrusted stiletto heel.
Like Josephine and Jorja, Yoko and Morgan share an attention-grabbing colour palette, but instead of rich fuchsia it’s a bold chili pepper red. Yoko’s strappy upper is a direct reference to one of Grace Jones’ most enduring and boundary-breaking looks, while the arched silhouette and glossy finish communicate a note of sensuality. Morgan, by contrast, begins with a traditional silhouette before quietly subverting expectations. The heel and toe – each crafted from red patent leather – are joined together by side panels of clear PVC which give Morgan a distinctly modernist feel. The late ‘70s weren’t only a revolutionary time for fashion and music, but for art, too, and this is our nod to that.
Perhaps the shoes that best encapsulate Glamour Crush’s central ethos of confident self-expression are Yuri and Yasmin. Both towering platforms with high block heels, these are designed to make an impression. Yasmin is an overtly feminine peep-toe mule, the daintiness of its upper playfully contrasting with the chunkiness of its sole. All of this is cast in a zesty yellow satin, which gives off a feeling of irrepressible optimism. Yuri dispenses with the colour and opts instead for a stark monochromatic colourway. Like Yasmin, it has a peep-toe, but adds a closed heel and delicate ankle strap. The white nappa upper plays off beautifully against the sleek black of the heel and sole.
Of course, no collection would be complete without an appearance from our beloved Maureen. This time taking the form of a versatile pump with a dramatic 85mm stiletto heel, it’s an icon for a reason.
We could say more, but a collection as vital, uninhibited, and thrilling as this one demands to be experienced. The hedonistic world of Glamour Crush is just waiting to be discovered. Shop our new Spring/Summer 23' collection now.
